Winter Greetings from the Exchange!
In many cultures, winter is a time for sharing. With resources scarce, winter has always been a great time to recognize the connections we share with others and to make community bonds stronger. Now is the time to work to build our local community and see how we can all help each other meet our needs this season and beyond. By providing a directory of community-minded businesses and individuals with goods and services to offer, The Humboldt Exchange is a gateway into local community resources and events, all of which help keep our region strong and in(ter)dependent.
Of course, one of the most visible forms of sharing is gift giving. With the winter holidays fast approaching, you might very well be looking for the perfect gift for someone you love. Look no further than the Humboldt Exchange. You can find something special at one of the many local businesses in the area that accept community currency, and help give back to your local community at the same time. In addition to local businesses, you can look in the Exchange for one of the numerous individuals in our area who offer their time and services to the community. You could even learn a new skill and make your own gifts to share! And don’t forget about the local craftspeople found within the pages of the Exchange who are looking to share the fruits of their labor with all of us.
Speaking of local crafts, the annual Humboldt Exchange Craft Fair is coming up right around the corner! Sunday, December 13th is the Humboldt Exchange’s monthly pancake breakfast, which will feature a craft fair and a cookie exchange. In addition to spending time with other individuals interested in local economic independence and eating as many tasty pancakes as you can, you will be able to browse the wares of local artisans who all accept some amount community currency for their products. And it wouldn’t be the winter season without baked goods, and what better baked goods than cookies? So bring a batch of your favorite cookies to share and come prepared to have a great time while strengthening our community. If you happen to be a local craftsperson who is interested in participating in this event, please contact Grant at 476-8475. There is no booth fee, but we do ask that you accept some amount of community currency for your crafts.
