April/May 2007 Issue
Dear Humboldt Community,
Inside you’ll find a wealth of resources and news to connect
you with others in our community. Join us as we work to build a stronger
local economy in Humboldt County!
Highlights this month:
New Businesses in April/May
• Muddy’s Hot Cup in Arcata now accepts up to $5 Community Currency
on Wednesdays. Go for your morning coffee, a savory lunch, or an afternoon
beer.
• Jessicurl Hair Care will be accepting Community Currency from salons
starting in May, although exact details were not confirmed at press time. Check
the website or visit www.jessicurl.com for info, and ask your favorite salon
about accepting Community Currency!
• Ocean Air Farm will accept up to $20CC towards purchase of a share
of this season’s crop. See page six for details.
• Coming Soon: The Northcoast Environmental Center will begin accepting
Community Currency when they are settled into their new office –
look for details in the June/July Directory.
• Where do you want to shop? Let us know where you want to spend Community
Currency and we’ll send a business packet of information right away!
Pancakes are BACK!
Have you been waking up on the third Sunday of the month, wondering why
you’re craving pancakes and conversation? We know why – you’re
missing the Pancake Breakfast! After a short break to find a new space,
the Humboldt Exchange Pancake Breakfast resumed in March at the home
of generous community members. Contact us to find out who’s hosting
the April 15 and May 18 breakfasts and satisfy that craving – with
a little maple syrup on top.
“How Do I Use The Humboldt Exchange?”
If you’ve ever asked yourself this question, come to our new workshop
on “Using the Humboldt Exchange,” presented after the Pancake
Breakfast each month. We’ll provide brief background info on community
currencies, plus ideas for how you can support our local economy through
the Humboldt Exchange. Contact us for more info.
Last Monday Exchange Meetings
Want to get involved in the Humboldt Exchange? We welcome you to our
monthly open meeting to learn about the many ways you can help create
economic independence in our local bioregion. Meetings run for about
an hour and always include snacks – next dates are April 30 and
May 28 at 7pm.
Currency Distribution Changup
With the arrival of the new $1 bills, we’re entering a new phase
of Community Currency distribution! Starting next issue, first-time listers
receive $86 – one each of the $50, $20, $10, $5, and $1 –
to enable them to get involved in the Exchange right away. Repeat listers
now receive $16 – one each of the $10, $5, and $1 bills –
to keep them rolling. Look for more information on Community Currency
circulation and targets in the June/July issue of the Directory.
Spring has arrived and we know that means yard work, gardening, and
cleaning
– all services you can find in the pages that follow. Use Community
Currency to freshen up your home or office, and you’ll make everyone’s
day a little brighter. Thanks for reading, and happy exchanging!
In each other we trust!
