August/September 2005 Issue
Summer Greetings from the Collective!
Dear Humboldt Community,
Welcome to the August/September issue of the Humboldt Exchange. With
this issue we celebrate that we have completed a full year as the Humboldt
Exchange! We hope you are happy with how far this project has come over
the last year.
This issue we welcome many new listers, as we continue to grow and expand.
For those who’ve been regulars for a while, this issue offers many
great new opportunities to spend your currency and trade your goods.
Our first two Pancake Breakfasts were wonderful successes, with over
30 people attending both times. It was a great opportunity to meet folks
in person, and talk together. If you have goods for which you are willing
to accept Community Currency, feel free to bring them and if you offer
services please bring your business cards or other information about
what you offer. Anyone is welcome to attend: friends, neighbors and family
members – children are welcome! Pancake Breakfasts will continue
to be held the 3rd Sunday of every month, from 10am - noon. $5 Community
Currency (you can buy CC at the door if you don’t have any) at
the Democracy Unlimited Headquarters: 1402 M Street, Eureka (corner of
14th & M). If you’d like to help
us cook breakfast or clean up please give us a call!
As promised last issue, Loving Earth Gardens now has their roadside
stand up and going in Arcata. They are accepting 20-50% Community Currency
on all purchases (see page four for details).
As of print time, we were unable to finalize with a new business to
accept Community Currency this issue. However we have several potential
businesses on the horizon, and continue to hold out our goal of a new
business for each issue. We appreciate your help in growing this project
by letting businesses know that you’d like to see them accepting
Community Currency. We have a lovely packet to send out, and are happy
to meet in person as well. Please make sure to patronize the local businesses
accepting Community Currency and let them know how much you appreciate
their participation in this project.
This issue also brought us some extra help with organizing and putting
it all together:
Ian and Britton have begun forming our Design Team responsible for layout,
graphics and the web page. We welcome others interested in assisting
in the Design Team, as there are many aspects and tasks to accomplish.
Our lead designer, Heather, is happy to train folks who would like to
join this aspect of the project.
Tony and Ginger have stepped up to form our Distribution Team, they
will be organizing a structure for regular and thorough distribution
of the paper directory. They will definitely need volunteers to help
do the distribution. They also would appreciate your ideas and suggestions
regarding the process, locations and methods that will best get our issues
where they should be.
Ginger Fletcher has also joined our collective, and will be directly
involved in the many aspects of keeping this project flowing month to
month. Ginger comes to the project as a regular volunteer through Democracy
Unlimited of Humboldt County. She is also a student at HSU.
Please join us in welcoming Ginger and all the new listers to the Humboldt
Exchange, as we look forward to our next year!
In Each Other We Trust!
