August/September 2007
Greetings,
Humboldt County Community!
Welcome to the August/September 2007 issue of the Humboldt Exchange
Community Currency Directory. Inside you’ll find a wealth of resources
and news to connect you with others in our community. Join us as we work
to build a stronger local economy in Humboldt County! Highlights this
month:
New Businesses in August/September:
• Crepes, Coffee & Cream in Eureka will accept up to $5 Community
Currency on any purchase. Conveniently located off the 101 with outdoor seating
and drive-thru options, their crepes are the best in Eureka!
• The Arcata Eye welcomes $1 Community Currency bills in the money slot
for newsstand purchases of the weekly paper. Stay on top of the latest news,
scene, and police log with that special Arcata attitude, published every Tuesday.
• Planet Chai will accept up to $5 Community Currency towards the purchase
of a gallon of their tasty chai at the Arcata Farmers Market ($15 total). Brewed
locally in Arcata, Planet Chai makes a fabulous iced or hot chai latté.
Yum!
• Where do you want to shop? Let us know where you want to spend Community
Currency and we’ll send a business packet of information right away!
Share Your Story
Has this Directory helped you to make a successful exchange in the last
few months? Are you excited about a new business accepting Community
Currency? Let us know! Send an email to info@HumboldtExchange.org and
tell us what you like about the Humboldt Exchange. We want to know
how your exchanges are going, and we’ll publish the best stories
in the next issue of the Directory! You can also include feedback with
your listings – see the form at the back of this Directory to
submit your listings by September 15th for the October/November issue.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Would You Like Some Maple Syrup With That Exchange?
Bring your exchanges to life at the monthly Humboldt Exchange Pancake
Breakfast, where you can sell or publicize your own crafts and services
while enjoying delicious pancakes and great conversations. The Pancake
Breakfast is the third Sunday of every month from 10am-noon in Eureka,
and it’s a fabulous way to meet other folks who use Community
Currency. Just $5 Community Currency for all the pancakes you can eat!
You can also stick around for our “How To Use The Humboldt Exchange” workshop
from 12:30-1:30pm, a great way to get answers to your questions about
Community Currency, the Directory, and more. The next two Pancake Breakfasts
and workshops are Sunday, August 19th and Sunday, September 16th. Contact
the Humboldt Exchange for location details.
Get Involved!
We could use your help with everything from putting on events to listings
data entry to reaching out to new businesses. Come to one of our open
meetings, held the fourth Monday of every month at 7pm. At these meetings
we have a discussion circle about the workings of Community Currency,
and we have fun answering one another’s questions, and generating
ideas. The next two meetings are Monday, August 27th and Monday, September
24th. Or give us a call anytime at 476-8475 to get involved immediately!
We hope you’ve had a wonderful summer and that the listings in
this issue of the Directory help you transition into fall. Whether you’re
going back to school or getting ready to harvest this year’s garden,
please take advantage of the offerings that follow to make the most of
living in this amazing community! Thanks for reading, and happy exchanging –
In each other we trust!
