February/March 2005 Issue
Greetings Humboldt Community,
Welcome to the February/March issue of the Humboldt Exchange!
This issue we're going to try a new idea that was brought to us by one of our longtime listers. If you get two friends to sign up for the April/May issue of the Exchange - we will waive your $10 listing fee! You will still get your community currency and we will mail you a copy of the directory - but we'll foot the bill in exchange for the new listers you bring to this project.
We thought this was a great idea because it encourages our members to take responsibility for recruiting new people to participate in the project. Who better to advocate for the Exchange and explain how it works than the people who use it and who are invested in seeing it happen? We've changed the listing form to reflect this new idea - make sure your friend who is signing up includes your name.
On the note of responsibility - we really want to encourage folks to call each other and use the services your neighbors are offering you! Half of the involvement and success of this project depends on offering our goods and services to each other but the other half, which is equally important, is utilizing what others offer.
A few of us in the Exchange collective were grumbling that we rarely get called but then we also realized that we weren't calling folks ourselves. If this sounds familiar please make an effort to change these habits so that we can all feel like the project is working for as many of us as possible. It takes a little more time to set up an exchange with a fellow community member than it does to just go buy something at the store - but that time is an investment in your community and it is worth it.
It has come to our attention that folks aren't finding copies of the directory when you go looking at the stores and coffee shops. Putting out this directory and keeping it distributed is a big task and all of us doing it are volunteers. We could use your help making sure the paper is out in public, being seen and used. If there are places where you often go, please consider pitching in and helping us distribute to those spots. Please give us a call if you are able to help with distribution or if you have ideas for how this process can go more smoothly.
We continue to welcome new people to the project and we hope that the extra recruitment incentive will make the April/May issue of the directory the largest we've put out. Please help us make that happen. The deadline for getting your listings in is March 15th.
Thanks so much for your involvement with this project!
In each other we trust,
Heather, Yvonne, Ryan, Heather, Squiggy and Kaitlin
