THE COMMUNITY CURRENCY DIRECTORY OF HUMBOLDT COUNTY

February/March 2006 Issue

Dear Humboldt Community,

Welcome to the December/January issue of the Humboldt Exchange!

We have a new business accepting Community Currency -- Espresso 101! These folks carry fair trade and certified organic coffee, roasted at Thanksgiving Coffee. They are located in the parking lot of the Valley West shopping center in Arcata, with both a drive-thru and sit-down coffee area. They sell bags of whole beans and pre-ground coffee by the pound, in addition to all the usual café goodies. Espresso 101 will accept up to $5 of Community Currency per purchase all day every Thursday.

Due to our outreach to both the Arcata and Eureka Chambers of Commerce, we’ve had several new inquiries from local businesses interested in accepting Community Currency. We are fairly certain by next month we can promise at least two more businesses who will be accepting Community Currency. If you know of a business you think would be a good fit, please let us know. We would be happy to send them an information packet and set up a time to meet with them.

On December 11, we hope you will join us for our Winter Craft Exchange from 10am – 2pm. If you have any items you make, from soap to socks, wreaths to chutneys, incense to pottery, please bring them to be traded or purchased with Community Currency. The more folks who come, the more there will be to share! Even if you aren’t interested in acquiring things for the holidays, we hope you’ll join us for the Great Cookie Trade – everyone is encouraged to bring homemade cookies and treats to trade with each other -- and the recipe too if you don’t mind sharing it!

For just the month of December we will be moving up our monthly Pancake Breakfast to hold it at the same time as the Winter Craft Exchange, so there will also be all the pancakes you can eat for $5 Community Currency from 10am to noon. If you don’t have Community Currency, you can buy some at the door. In January, the Pancake Breakfast will once again be held on the usual third Sunday of the month. Both events will occur at the Democracy Unlimited Headquarters: 1402 M Street, Eureka (corner of 14th and M). Carpooling is available from Arcata (meet at the Co-Op kiosk at 9:30am), and we always appreciate a hand with cooking or clean up, just give us a call!

We would like to take a moment and give thanks for all the wonderful volunteers who make this project possible. Special thanks go to Heather, Mike, Hannah, and Tony who all dedicated extra time to getting this issue put out and distributed! We still could use a hand with distribution, if you have the time to drop off papers at a couple locations you would help many others be able to see what everyone has to offer.

Hope the turning of the year offers you a wonderful time to reflect and to find many ways to bring peace and joy to each other --

Happy Holidays!
