THE COMMUNITY CURRENCY DIRECTORY OF HUMBOLDT COUNTY

June/July 2005

Cover of June-July 2005 issue.Dear Humboldt Community,

Happy Solstice! Welcome to the June/July issue of the Humboldt Exchange!

This issue is pretty full so in order to save space we will keep it brief and just share some announcements:

• There are now two places where you can purchase food using the Community Currency! Green Life Evolution Center in Blue Lake will be accepting $5 of Community Currency on all purchases in June and July (see page 4 for more information). Loving Earth Gardens in Arcata will be accepting 20-50% Community Currency on all purchases at their roadside stand (see page 5 for details). Please make sure to patronize these local businesses and let them know how much you appreciate their participation in this project.

• Our business packets are complete! If you own or work for a business that is interested in finding out more about how to participate in this project, please give us a call and we will mail you a packet. If you aren't a business owner but you know of a business that you think would be interested, please let us know and we will send you a packet to take in as a customer and friend. This project is all about building community so please help us out by letting the businesses you patronize know that you'd like to see them accepting Community Currency.

• Starting in June we will be offering a monthly Pancake Breakfast! The Breakfast will be the 3rd Sunday of the month, from 10am - noon , beginning June 19th. This will be an opportunity for those of you involved in this project to meet each other, and meet those of us who coordinate this project. Folks who aren't yet participants but who want to learn more are welcome to come too. Bring your friends, neighbors and family members - children are welcome at these events! If you have goods for which you are willing to accept Community Currency, feel free to bring them and if you offer services please bring your business cards or other information about what you offer. This is a chance to eat good food, hang out and talk informally about this project and where you'd like to see it go. The cost is $5 Community Currency (you can buy CC at the door if you don't have any) and they will take place at the Democracy Unlimited Headquarters: 1402 M Street, Eureka (corner of 14th & M). If you'd like to help us cook breakfast or clean up please give us a call!

• Starting in June we are going to stop holding regular office hours on Monday evenings. You can still always stop by during Democracy Unlimited office hours: Tuesdays (noon-3pm), Wednesdays ( 3-6pm ), Thursdays ( 5-8pm ) or by appointment during the rest of the week. We still welcome volunteers during these office hours and to help with other tasks - please call us if you're interested in helping out.

• The Humboldt Exchange is looking for a new layout and graphic designer. After over two years of hard work, our designer Heather Ault is retiring from the project. We're going to miss her superb sense of style that has brought you issue after issue of beautiful directories and a fantastic website. Our hope is to find someone with graphic design experience but we don't necessarily need a pro. Heather has offered to help train this new person, which would be a great experience. She is one of the best computer teachers this area has to offer! If you're interested in finding out more about this volunteer position please give us a call or drop an email. And thanks to Heather for all her hours of hard work on this project!

We hope you enjoy this issue of the Humboldt Exchange directory. Please let us know if you have suggestions for improvements. We're succeeding with our goal to add one business each issue (this time we have two!) Please help us maintain this goal by suggesting other businesses you think would be interested and by talking up this project wherever you go - don't leave home without your Community Currency bills!

In each other we trust!

Heather, Yvonne, Ryan, Squiggy and Kaitlin
