October/November 2006 Issue
Dear
Humboldt Community,
Welcome to the October/November 2006 issue of the Humboldt Exchange directory!
The ones are coming! The ones are coming! We are so
excited to share with you the submissions from our art contest for $1
Community Currency bills - check out the back cover of this directory.
Local artists Urania Hunter and Bob Filby have offered five beautiful
design options for the new $1 bills. And big thanks to the artists for
their gorgeous submissions!
At long last, we are poised to print new $1 CC bills. These bills will
increase the utility and convenience of Community Currency. We expect
to release the new $1 CC bills by the end of 2006. However, we
need your help to see this effort through. You can help with our printing
costs by donating to the final push of our fund drive. A contribution
of $20 or more will help meet the costs of making $1 CC bills a reality
–- and don't forget to vote on your favorite designs for the final
$1 CC bill! See page eleven for details.
In the meantime, you can add another business to your Community Currency
shopping list. Electronics Restored (featured on the cover) has
joined the Humboldt Exchange as the newest business to accept Community
Currency! Visit their shop at 317 W Seventh Street in Eureka
for low-cost computers and restored electronics. Their ad on page five
offers more information about how to use Community Currency to fulfill
your electronic needs.
Finally, don't forget that the Humboldt Exchange is alive and active
online. Visit our website at HumboldtExchange.org anytime to browse
the current listings, see frequently asked questions, learn more about
Community Currency, or submit your listings for the next issue.
You can also email us at info@HumboldtExchange.org with questions or suggestions
about the project.
Or join us each month on the third Sunday for our monthly Pancake
Breakfast and the growing Exchange Bazaar, where you can engage in sales
or barter for goods and services using Community Currency. Bring
your crafts, used stuff, or business cards to let folks know about your
services. And bring your Community Currency to purchase bread, eggs, handbags,
wool, and other items that appear alongside the pancakes! The next Pancake
Breakfast is Sunday, October 15 from 10am-noon at 1402 M Street, Eureka.
Thanks once again for checking out the Humboldt Exchange. We hope this
directory helps you to connect with others in our community and to support
a healthy local economy. We also invite you to help make the Exchange
more successful by volunteering –- call 476-8475 to get involved
today.
In each other we trust!

READY FOR THE NEW MEDIA REVOLUTION? Citizen Media Net
is a not-for-profit forming locally to build a new paradigm for mass communication.
The potential of the internet to revolutionize media is finally within
reach, and the citizen media movement is on the rise. Citizen Media Net
seeks to turn that movement into a revolution by fostering cooperation
and collaboration throughout the movement, and by providing strategic
organization and support to those involved in citizen media. Novice media-makers
will be assisted in developing solid media skills. Media professionals
will find new avenues to work independently of giant companies (freelance
or in collaborative groups). This is a grassroots effort, so people are
needed to help build the group. Current priorities: nonprofit formation/governance,
and video production, but there are many ways individual media-makers
(artists and communicators of all sorts) and media reform activists can
contribute. See www.newmediarevolution.net.
