THE COMMUNITY CURRENCY DIRECTORY OF HUMBOLDT COUNTY

October/November 2005

Cover of June-July 2005 issue.Autumn Greetings from the Exchange Collective!

Dear Humboldt Community,

Welcome to the October/November issue of the Humboldt Exchange!

It’s always interesting to see how the types of goods offered here in the Exchange shift with the changing of the seasons.

You might notice a slight difference in the look and feel of this issue as we have expanded to twelve pages. This is very exciting to us, and reflects our need to grow in order to accommodate more listings and more content.

This month, our Design Team (responsible for layout, graphics and the web page) has continued to expand to include Mike, whose flying fingers are a great boon for data entry as well. If you are interested in being part of the Design Team, please let us know. We are happy to train you, as needed. We also welcome others interested in helping in all aspects of this project, as there are many tasks to accomplish.

Tony and Ginger, our Distribution Team, are looking for more volunteers to get the papers into the hands of the community. See our ad on page eleven.

We’ve recently tried some new directions to reach out to more of the community, and to businesses. We placed a flyer in the Eureka Chamber of Commerce newsletter offering business information packets, and have had several inquiries as a result.

We also distributed the paper directly to 80 doorsteps in Arcata, and will be repeating this as a means of local outreach in the future, most likely in Eureka next.

If you are interested in helping to distribute, think your neighborhood would be a good candidate to receive a complementary copy, or have any other suggestions for ways to do outreach, please don’t be shy about contacting us.

The monthly Pancake Breakfast continues to be a fun opportunity to meet and experience the community of folks who are part of the Humboldt Exchange. Anyone is welcome to attend, whether you list or not, so please bring your children, friends, neighbors and family members.

Pancake Breakfasts are held on the 3rd Sunday of every month, from 10am - noon. $5 Community Currency (you can buy CC at the door if you don’t have any) at the Democracy Unlimited Headquarters: 1402 M Street, Eureka (corner of 14th & M). If you’d like to help us cook breakfast or clean up please give us a call!

Finally, we are hoping to organize a holiday bazaar of locally crafted items, similar (but larger) than the one last year. If you are interested in helping plan this event, or maybe even more than one, please contact us.

In Each Other We Trust!
Heather, Yvonne, Ryan, Ginger and Kaitlin
