THE COMMUNITY CURRENCY DIRECTORY OF HUMBOLDT COUNTY

Summer 2009

Summer Greetings from the Exchange!

Welcome to the first quarterly Humboldt Exchange Directory! With this Summer 2009 issue, we move from our old bi-monthly printing schedule to a new quarterly schedule.

Why the switch? First, we think that it provides convenience to Exchange members listing their skills and service. No longer do you need to remember to sign up every other month; instead, you can make sure your services are offered on a seasonal basis. It also means that those listings will be out there longer each time, giving you more exposure for a given offering in the Exchange.

For those of us volunteering with the Humboldt Exchange, we also see moving to a quarterly schedule as a way to carefully steward our labor and material resources, so that we can put our time and effort not only into the paper directory, but into the events, outreach, and educational efforts that also help make the Exchange a success.

Furthermore, the paper Exchange Directory will soon be complimented by a more exciting and dynamic online presence. We’ll be adding a social networking dimension to our website, as well as the chance for you to list your skills and services in a “skill bank.”

This bank, or database, means that if you are interested in locating someone in the community with the ability to help you out on a particular project or to teach you a given skill, you no longer need to search through back issues of the Directory. Instead, you can do a simple online search and find exactly who you need. Look for this new website early in July.

One last exciting change: To encourage you to check out what it is like to be a member of the Exchange to the fullest, we are now offering a discount to all individuals who list their skill or service for the entire year. With our next issue, if you choose up front to list for the entire year, you receive the fourth issue free.

That means you pay only $30 for an entire year’s worth of local advertising and a year’s worth of the chance to simultaneously support yourself and your community. We hope you’ll take us up on this offer!

And as always, feel free to get in touch with us if you have questions about anything. You can reach us at (707) 476-8475, or at info@humboldtexchange.org. We’d love to hear from you.

In each other we trust!
